Our Lawyers

Tasha Russell (Principal)



Tasha grew up in South Australia before moving to Kalgoorlie with her family in 2017. She graduated a Bachelor of Laws through Charles Darwin University in 2016, completed a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Adelaide and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in May 2019. She has worked with Ellery Brookman since August 2018 and took over ownership in 2022.

Prior to working with Ellery Brookman, Tasha worked closely with renowned right-to-die activists and Australian and international media organisations in advocating for law reform on the issue of euthanasia. Tasha has also had her legal commentary published by the United States legal news service "Jurist".

Tasha has experience across numerous areas of law including commercial and business law, deceased estates, family law, mining law, civil litigation and debt collection matters. Tasha assists clients with matters in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of WA, the Family Court and the Warden's Court.

In her spare time Tasha enjoys spending time with her family, renovating, prospecting and is an avid Port Adelaide Football Club supporter.

Lisa grew up in a farming family at Gibson, near Esperance, though she has now lived and worked in Kalgoorlie-Boulder for over 20 years. She was admitted to practice in 1999 and founded Ellery Brookman in February, 2008. Lisa ceased operating Ellery Brookman in 2022 but continues to work with the firm offering her expertise as a senior solicitor.

Lisa is a very experienced commercial lawyer and negotiator, currently assisting many small, medium and large businesses across the region to ensure their contracts are fair and watertight, and their deals go through without a hitch. She provides practical advice and documentation tailored to each client’s needs. Much of her work is in commercial mining transactions. She also devotes a large portion of her time to estate planning for her commercial clients, including business and farm succession arrangements.

Lisa serves the Goldfields community on the committee of Goldfields Pipeline Marathon Association Inc. and as a director of the trustee of the Goldfields Esperance Community Trust. She loves living in the Goldfields, and enjoys trail running and writing fiction. Her debut crime novel, Private Prosecution, was published by Fremantle Press in 2021.

Graeme is an energy and resources lawyer with significant experience within the resources industry, firstly as a mineral geologist and then as a corporate and commercial lawyer within the oil and gas industry. He has worked extensively in the mining, energy and oil industries and is experienced across a variety of jurisdictions, including New South Wales, Western Australia, New Zealand, South-east Asia, North and South America and Papua New Guinea.

Graeme has worked as counsel for and consulted to a variety of petroleum and energy companies in Papua New Guinea, USA , New Zealand and Australia and has undertaken secondment roles as corporate counsel to petroleum companies in Sydney. He has successfully managed initial public offerings, capital raisings and the legal aspects with respect to financing and construction of an oil refinery and the acquisition of major petroleum distribution businesses in Papua New Guinea.

Sarah grew up on a farming property east of Esperance. She holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in History and English from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle. In addition, Sarah is an award-winning author and a recipient of a Centenary Medal for Services to Australia and Literature. Her novels Skins and Texas: An Australian Love Story were published by Allen and Unwin in 2002 and 2008 respectively.

Sarah first worked with Ellery Brookman as a paralegal clerk in 2013. In October 2017 Sarah moved to Kalgoorlie to work full time for Ellery Brookman and she was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia to practice law in September 2018. She now practices across a range of areas including deceased estates, estate planning and commercial and business law.

Sarah’s interests are history and the natural environment. 


Louise Crogan (Solicitor)



Louise was born and lived in the Wheatbelt before completing high school at John Paul College, Kalgoorlie. Louise joined Ellery Brookman in 2017 as a paralegal clerk was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia to practice law in August 2019.

Louise also holds a Bachelor of Communications from Edith Cowan University. Prior to working for Ellery Brookman, Louise worked in the Kalgoorlie mining industry, spent two months volunteering in Thailand, lived and worked in England for two years and worked in remote aboriginal communities on community development projects.

She now practices in most areas of commercial law with a particular focus on property, leasing and business sale and purchase transactions, and also practices in criminal law.

Louise enjoys gardening, spending time with family and travelling.

Town Planning and Conveyancing

Lisa Engelbrecht (Town Planner, Conveyancing and Paralegal)


            
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts (Urban and Regional Planning) and joined Ellery Brookman in 2017. She has worked previously in both the local government and private practice town planning spheres. Lisa has undertaken specialised project work for local authorities and has extensive experience in governance, having been a member of the Cottesloe Design Advisory Panel, John XXIII College Council as well as Chairperson of the John XXIII College Property & Planning Committee. She has also been involved in providing design advice and assessing development designs against local planning policies and the Residential Design Codes on behalf of a number of Western Australian building companies. She has assessed building designs for developer approvals at Beachridge Estate in Jurien Bay.
